Recording phone calls - is it ethical?

How many times have you heard the phrase, "this call may be recorded for training purposes" or simply this call may be recorded. I don't know about you, but I have to say that I find this a bit unnerving when I hear it, as I prefer to have nothing recorded for later use. But, in today's world of electronics and in some cases dishonesty of the customer, this can become a necessary evil for many companies in the phone based customer service industry. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm not always in a good mood when I call the customer service line and have on occasion even been known to be a bit rude.

So if you are in one of those situations where you find yourself in need of a
Phone Recorder device, Brickhouse Security carries a full line of devices for all of your needs. Digital Phone Recorders are compatible with any cell phone or landline to record any conversation. Because they are digital, the data can be erased with the touch of a button. They offer various mobile models boasting a long battery life.

Whether or not you feel phone recording is a good or a bad thing, it appears to be an expected thing in the industry. As long as they are using these recordings for "training purposes" I guess I don't mind, but then I expect that the training will make my next visit to the customer service hot line a more pleasant experience.
