The burglary that took place last month in my neighbor’s house set my mind racing. Apart from money, her laptop was stolen and she looked totally devastated. Having a laptop myself and working from home, I had everything stored in it. When my hard disk becomes full, I just copy the files on a DVD. I hadn’t thought of any unforeseen incident taking place till then.

I had very important customers in insurance business and tons of emails, Excel sheets, PowerPoint presentations and customer details were stored in my Laptop. I had to find a good storage device very quickly. Fortunately, a few of my friends who were already customers of good storage services like Steamload, IBackup and Box.Net were helpful in giving me their feedback.

I was looking for ease of use, option to share the files with my customers, have 100% security, login from anywhere and retrieve whatever I want at anytime.
I learnt that Box.Net had slight rendering errors in Internet Explorer 7 (which I was using). It required the recipient to register for sharing. Obviously I cannot ask my customers to register themselves! I didn’t see anything about security or SSL in Steamload and it required manual transfer of files. That would make my work a lot more complicated.
My last resort was IBackup.

I was pleased to find that its product IDrive maps my online storage account as a local drive on my computer so I can drag-n-drop, open, edit and save files directly from office applications. Moreover, I just required an email id of my customers to create a link and share the files.

It had automatic scheduling of backup and storage. Whats more, it had 128 bit SSL encryption for secure transmission.

I initially tried out their trail version and looking back now, I am really satisfied that I am getting value for what I have invested in. http://www.ibackup.com
