We know that it’s good to consolidate credit card debt (at least that is what we keep hearing from everyone). In fact, the first step towards addressing the problem of credit card debt is to consolidate credit card debt. Now, what do you do to consolidate credit card debt? Should you just go with that attractive ad in the newspaper that says ‘...the lowest APR in the town is available here’?

The first thing, really, is to keep your eyes and ears open. There are always a number of offers available for you to choose from. The credit card suppliers keep coming with new and more attractive offers asking you to consolidate credit card debt with them. However, you must note that the APR quoted in bold, e.g. 0% APR, is applicable only for a short term (3-9 months). The long term (or the standard) APR is different. So, when you go looking for a credit card to consolidate credit card debt, you must be keenly looking for these 3 things (in terms of APR) – introductory APR, introductory APR period and the standard APR. Let’s see how each one is important.

Introductory APR is probably the most attractive thing to look for when you are looking to consolidate credit card debt. If you consolidate credit card debt to a card that has a low introductory APR e.g. 0%, the first thing you get is a breather/relief in terms of the rate at which your credit card debt has been growing. Based on how long that 0% APR period is (generally you will look to consolidate credit card debt with a credit card supplier who offers 0% initial APR), you will at least be able to temporarily break the growth rate of your credit card debt. More the introductory period, the better it is.

However, you should not ignore the standard APR when you consolidate credit card debt. This is the interest rate that will be applied to your balance after the expiry of the introductory low APR period that was given to lure you to consolidate credit card debt with that credit card supplier. If the standard APR is too high and you know that you will not be able to clear off the entire credit card debt during the low APR period, that credit card is probably not the best for you to consolidate credit card debt to. However, if you think that you will be able to clear off the entire credit card debt during that period, you can make some compromises on the standard APR of the credit card to which you consolidate credit card debt. The card that synchronizes with your current and future financial position (and needs), is the one you should consolidate credit card debt to.

There is another option but only if you are good at making your payments on time and that is to move your higher interest rate credit cards with 0% balance transfers. This allows you to make payments on the balance without paying the interest and often this option is available up to 12 months. What ever you choose, always be responsible with credit, as you are only borrowing against your own future.

AdSense is not what my business is based on by any means - but it is a great way to earn revenue almost on autopilot.

A. Probably the biggest mistake people make is thinking the AdSense earnings are easy to achieve. It is very easy to get started but as I learned it takes a lot of effort to increase your earnings. I got really downhearted whenever I would log in to my account to see that I had only made a few dollars. And that's when I decided to spend months and months of my time learning everything I could about AdSense.

What's my favorite episode at Rock Startup?

First I guess I'd better explain what Rock Startup is for those who don't already know. Rock Startup is PayPerPosts idea of a reality show program. It's really been more a a "reality journal" of the history of PayPerPost and some of the many challenges and opportunities they have all been facing through the last year as they have been trying to get PayPerPost turned into a household name.

My favorite episode is episode nine, which is where Ted gets gets the Postie Patrol in reverse and has to find fifteen items in the office in 5 minutes. They brought in Colleen, who's been at the top of the PPP earnings list for as long as I have been part of the program which is about 8 months now. She has been around PayPerPost for quite some time now, almost since the beginning. I also really liked episode eight, because that's where the work with the PR company started and since then the opportunites have been increasing greatly for us all!

In Episode nine, called Blog Mogul, it was really fun to see the gang having a good time at Ted's expense and by the look of it, it was good timing as he appears to have been in need of some stress relief right about then.

I have enjoyed the entire reality show concept about PayPerPost and it has been really fun watching how they've grown and many of the great adventures they have shared with each other and us as well along the way. Long live PayPerPost! May they continue to "Rock Startup" and I can't wait to see what else is coming in the near future.

Would the test results be useful for good?

No. You have to retest after some time. Your RMR and your total metabolism changes through time. Change in any element of your lifestyle would directly affect the result. There are many ways to promote your website and one of the most efficient ways is to use search engines. Search engines are the first stop for most people trying to find information, services, and products online. Because of this, it is essential that your website appears quickly in search results. The Internet contains numerous search engines, some of which offer what is known as "paid inclusion." This means that you pay the specific search engine an annual fee for your web page to be included in their index.

Of course, every search engine already has an automated program commonly called a "spider" that indexes all the web pages it locates online, and it does this for free. So whether you pay or not, your web page will eventually be indexed by all Internet search engines, as long as the spider can follow a link to your page. The major issue is,then, how quickly your page is indexed.
A search engine that offers a paid URL inclusion uses an extra spider that is programmed to index the particular pages that have been paid for. The difference between the spider that indexes pages for free and the spider that indexes only pages for a fee is speed. If you have paid for inclusion, the additional search engine spider will index your page immediately.

The debate over paid URL inclusion centers around the annual fee. Since the regular spider of these search engines would eventually get around to indexing your web page anyway, why is a renewal fee necessary? Another, and perhaps more important, disadvantage is the limited reach of paid URL inclusions. The largest search engines, Google, Yahoo, and AOL, do not offer paid URL inclusion. That means that the search engines you choose to pay an inclusion fee will amount to a small fraction of the traffic to your site on a daily basis.

Google usually updates its index every month, and there is no way you can speed up this process. You will have to wait for the Google spider to index your new pages no matter how many other search engines you have paid to update their index daily. Be aware that it is only after Google updates their index that your pages will show up in Google, Yahoo,or AOL results.
One way to figure out whether paid URL inclusion is a good deal for your company is to consider some common factors.

As you can see, there are numerous factors to consider when it comes to paid URL inclusion. It can be a valuable investment depending on your situation. Evaluate your business needs and your website to determine if paid URL inclusion is a wise investment for your business goals.

Getting ranked in Google - Is the sandbox for real?

I have had a website on the Internet for about 5 years now but only in the past year have I gotten into the real side of SEO and page ranking. What I have learned so far is that there are three Google filters, all of which take a look at the age of a web site. Many web sites aren't existence for a very long time for many reason, but they often end up abandoned shortly after they are created.

Because of that, Google has implemented a filter that prevents new web sites from receiving high rankings for the more competitive and popular search terms. The name of that filter is called the Google "sandbox". There has been much conversation as to the existence and depth of the "sandbox" but I have to say that from personal experience, that does appear to exist at least some levels.

Another filter is the "Trust Rank filter" which is closely related to the sandbox filter. If your web site can receive a high Trust Rank, you will be able to get higher rankings in the Google search engine. The Trust Rank of a web site is determined by the age of a web site, the quality of inbound links and the contents of a web site.

Another filter that you need to be aware of and pay heed to is the "domain age filter". It is a filter that considers the age of your web site for ranking purposes. If you web site hand an old domain name, it will be more likely to get high rankings for competitive keywords on Google. A quick search on Google will provide you with a number of web pages that have information on the "sandbox effect" if you want more information.

It's tax time - what do you declare?

As they say, two things in life are sure and that's death and taxes, but unfortunately not in that order. Whether you are working for someone or if you are running a home business (or in my case both), one thing that all of us need to consider is taxes. You should be thinking about that through out the year and putting away money to pay for the taxes on your earnings but if you haven't you will have some reckoning to do before April 15th.

We have three home businesses, one of which is my wife's embroidery service, and I also have two Internet ventures going as well. Please keep in mind that anything you earn during the year is taxable income. If you are involved in Google AdSense or one of the many other Internet services, you will likely receive a 1099-MISC form for the income you earned. If you reside in the United States and made over $600 in one year through Google AdSense, Google has to send you a 1099-MISC form outlining exactly how much has been paid to you over the year. If your income was less than this, you may or may not receive the form but, you still have to report your income! This is just like the W2 you would receive from a place of employment except that these types of earnings are typically not taxed by the provider and you will be responsible for the taxes from those earnings.

In my case and level of earning with AdSense, I just plan on my last check of the year to need to be put towards the taxes on the years earnings. If you are self employed and can show a loss in your business, you can also get credit to offset much of your earnings and avoid a lot of the taxes. As a self-employed individual, you will now have expenses related to your business which you may declare. These include expenses such as domain registration and website hosting charges. How much money have I made with PayPerPost?

PayPerPost has been around for a while now and have taken the Internet by storm with their sponsored content program. They find advertisers that are looking for traffic and better ranking for their websites, which in turn will bring them more business and success in their ventures online, and pay their people to review and then blog about those products or services.

The wide world of blogging...

The last few days have been a whirlwind of events that have been, well just say challenging to say the least. I originally started this blog as a place to build a business from, make a few extra bucks as I went along which the blog has been able to do for me. What I have learned in the last year is that building a business with a blog can be just a challenging as any other brick and mortar business.

I have my goals set for the coming year and I am hoping to achieve those, but as with any business, it will take a lot of hard work and time commitment. So why this post? I needed to collect my thoughts and redirect myself a bit and I always do that better when I write them down.

One thing that I must stress is balance. Balance is important to maintain your own sanity and keep yourself focused on all things that you are working on. In my case, I work a full time job away from home and hope to someday be able to work from home. I help my wife with managing her small machine embroidery business and run a small Internet business of my own.

The key is not to let those things run your life. You must maintain balance and that means for me that my family and religious obligations come first, the day job comes second (for the moment), play time 3rd, and the Internet business comes fourth. That might not sit well for many Internet marketers but it works for me. I don't plan to get rich quick, but slowly build over time and hopefully build something that will last, but I plan to continue on with Internet marketing as I think it's the wave of now and the future!

So you want an online business

So you want to be an Internet marketer. Your first thoughts about Internet marketing may have been to simply add a few dollars to what you are already earning monthly. Then you began to get more aggressive thoughts and start thinking that you might want to quit your day job and work from home. Next thing you know, you are dreaming about making a fortune on the Internet. Well guess what? It is possible. But then, all of the realities of this choice you are making sets in as at this point you don’t even have so much as a simple goal or marketing plan.

So that being said, a goal and plan is where you will want to start for building your business. This is going to be true of any business, be it the Internet and virtual real estate, or the existing business down the street. Without a plan, you will be spinning your wheels in no time, as you aimlessly wander through the maze of all the things that need to happen to run any successful business. It won’t matter if it’s a “brick and mortar” or virtual business marketing adventure, you will need to know where you want to go and how you “plan” to get there. This doesn't mean the plan and/or the goal won’t change as you go, but you need a goal and a plan to get started in the right direction.

The first part of any business plan is develop your goal. Without setting a goal, you won’t know what it is that you are after, and consequently you won’t be able to build a successful plan to get there if you don’t. Many times people think that goals are complicated and meaningless. They shouldn't and don’t have be. A goal is as simple as following these three rules.

Rule #1 - It must be specific
Rule #2 – It must have a time frame
Rule #3 – It must be attainable

It could be as simple as stating that your goal is: “I want to earn $10 a month in less than 3 months from today”, It could also be much more complicated such as: I want to have a company that is earning $1,000,000 a year in sales, selling blue widgets, by the end of this calendar year. So using that thought process you might have the following:

It must be specific – I want to earn $XXXX.XX per month
It must have a time frame – I plan to accomplish this on or before XX/XX/XXXX
It must be attainable – this is the most complicated part and where your business plan will come in.

In it’s briefest form you will need something that outlines your plans to reach what you stated in Rule #2. You’ll need to know what method you are planning to use to earn money, i.e. affiliate programs, AdSense, software product, a service, or even all of them together. Once you have decided that, you will need to develop all of the items needed and get them ready to provide to your customers, websites designed and built, and so on and so forth.

You will also need to understand the time commitment that your are able to make to your project. If you only have one hour per day to devote to your project, it will obviously affect the rate at which you are able to meet your goal versus being able to devote ten hours a day to it. Ultimately there are lots of decisions to be made before you dive into this adventure. In the majority of cases, you aren't are going to be able to quit your day job right away to start your new adventure and will need to start building your income slowly. Set smaller goals and as your reach one, set a new one a bit higher and just keep going.

If getting rich quick is your goal, most of the time your will fail, but if building a thriving and growing enterprise is what you want, you can get there. Most people that fail in marketing, do so because the goals they set were not realistic for their situation, and not reaching goals becomes discouraging so they give up. Take smaller bites at a time and you can become successful if you have a good plan, set a good goal, and keep moving forward.
