Digital Camera primer

If you think that all you need to do is just push the shutter button on your digital camera and great pictures magically appear; or the more features and options available in the digital camera, the better the digital photos … then prepare to be disappointed. As a consumer, the digital SLR camera allows novices to take excellent pictures in most basic situations in auto mode. For the more experienced digital photographer, many cameras have more advanced manual features you can experiment with and in specific situations using the scene modes such as Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, and Night Portrait. To take good pictures in lower light, you will typically require a digital SLR camera that is capable of ISO settings between 400 or 800 or more.

Most less expensive digital cameras can be sufficient for landscapes and portrait photography, but you will need to look at the more expensive digital SLR’s to take those spur of the moment photos like sports or movements. You can take as many photos as you want as digital cameras now have large storage capacity available too. Because any of these images are stored as the same data on the memory card, a digital camera can offer unsurpassed versatility without the need to change film types. When using digital cameras with the intention of printing your photos, it is ideal to choose the highest resolution but this will also mean each shot will require more memory storage. You will find that most cameras are provided with a basic low capacity card and you need to assess just how memory you will require and then check the prices of memory cards available and include this in the cost of the camera purchase.

How about batteries. A proprietary battery can have a very effective life span, but they tend to be expensive - and you do need a backup for when on the road or in the mountains. In fact, you have the option of many system accessories, including dedicated rechargeable batteries. If you plan on taking lots of pictures, a camera that uses disposable batteries can become a very expensive. If the camera has a rechargeable battery with a short life between charges, you might find yourself without power when a great photo opportunity presents itself or you may be stuck buying an extra, and often expensive, rechargeable battery which is custom designed to only fit that specific camera.

For heavy duty picture taking in most standard cameras, you can use the rechargeable hi capacity/high drain NiMH rechargeable batteries. They are ideal for digital cameras, portable music players, handheld radios, and other high drain electronic devices due to their long life, strong power per charge cycle, and they have no measurable memory effect! These batteries will give you good life and quick recharge, and are very economical.
