So you are planning on moving...what's next?

Moving insurance can be confusing, but it’s worth the time to study your options in order to obtain the best coverage. Your decision in finding the right moving company should be made at least 4-8 weeks in advance. If you decide to do your own packing or partial packing, remember that the moving company is not liable for damage to boxes packed by the customer. If you decide to do your own packing, get packing supplies and start collecting strong boxes suitable for moving.

For kids, moving can be a good or bad experience depending on how you deal with it. Tell them about the move as early as possible so they’ll have time to get used to the idea of moving.
On the other hand, moving during the school term can be positive in that your children will meet new friends quickly … something they may not have the opportunity to do if you move during a school break. If you’re in a situation where your spouse does not wish to move, open and honest communication are key to helping you and your partner make the right decision for your family. And, how will the move improve your lives? Maybe you’ll be in a larger home, or be in a better school district, or closer to family. Let the Moving company know if they are moving fragile or valuable items. After making a thorough survey of your entire home, your moving estimator will determine shipping costs.

If you are moving yourself using a rental, the cost will depend upon the size of the moving truck rental you need and where you are traveling. You may need to stop at weigh stations along the way. One of the first things to consider is your moving date. Lastly, before you drive off the rental lot with your moving truck, you will need to get copies of all of the important documents from the rental company. We hope that the above topics cover the most important areas and that you will use our suggestions as a starting point for your next move.
