What is SPAM to you?

To clarify, I am not talking about rotten eggs or that horrible stuff the poor depression dwellers had to eat, I am talking about computer e-mail spam. A server spam filter is a software application that scans incoming email messages, identifies SPAM based on preset configurations and isolates the unsolicited email so that it never reaches the email inboxes of the personal computers in the computer network. Unfortunately a spam filter has become a necessity for any computer that has email and accesses the internet.

Building a method for determining whether or not a message is spam is not sufficient, and until there is a major revision to SMTP, one that is less trusting, a mechanism needs to be built to somehow filter the spam out of incoming mail. One method for determining whether or not an incoming message is spam is by testing the sending server for full compliance with RFC 2821 and correct DNS setups. If you plan to use this type of method for spam prevention, you should get the type of spam filter that allows you to control what content is allowed and what should be deleted.

If you are ready to take back control of your Internet message Inbox and get rid of junk email, anti spam protection is the perfect solution. With Yahoo and AOL, which I am sure you have probably heard of by now, a possible (most likely) option of paying to avoid the spam filters so your email will get to its intended place. It will be interesting to see how paying to avoid the spam filters will work out for some of the major players such as Yahoo and AOL.

If you receive any mail into your inbox, then make sure you use the "Report Spam" feature within the email client. Most chain letters and virus warnings that you receive by e-mail are either hoaxes, or they are initiated by spam houses for the intent of getting every email address you know. In more common internet terms, spam is one or more messages sent repeatedly and massively to countless e-mail address, often resulting in flooded and crowded mailboxes all over the world.

Last item, always try to avoide using your main email address in anything you send out. Use an alternate email address for anything that is not for freinds and family. I won't solve the problem but will typically reduce the issue at hand. yahoo and Google both offere huge free email boxes for your use and you should take adavantage of them.
